Karima is the mother of 8 children and owner of Laghman Home Based Animal Husbandry. To say she has mastered the art of juggling her home life with her business would not be an exaggeration! Since returning home to Afghanistan, Farah has established Afghan Women Global Engineering & Afghanistan is a country where more than 80% of the population is engaged in agriculture and animal husbandry, of that 80%, only 30% are women. Karima quickly recognized there was not only a need for more women in agriculture, but a need for quality livestock in the province of Laghman. She began her business by distributing dairy cows to less fortunate families and teaching them necessary skills to care for the animals and produce milk. Karima also encourages families to send their girls to school by providing them with school supplies, uniforms, and monthly incentives. Because of Karima’s personal experience with gender inequality in education, she is driven to help young girls get back in the classroom.
Laghman Home Based Animal Husbandry was established in early 2013 and specializes in cow husbandry. Karima currently has a contract with one super store that she provides milk to on a daily basis. She plans to not only buy and distribute machinery to needy families, but to provide training on the production of milk, cheese, and cream. By attending the PEACE THROUGH BUSINESS® program, Karima hopes to gain in-depth leadership and managerial skills to help her reach neighboring villages and more provinces.
