President of the PEACE THROUGH BUSINESS(r) Rwanda Alumnae Association greets American mentor Billie Reed, who visited Rwanda in 2016 with an American delegation of 12. The bonds created in this program inspire!
24 women entrepreneurs from Kigali and Kabul came to the US for over a dozen days of empowerment in July. Rwandans and Afghans, each returned to their homelands ready to create real and sustainable change in their businesses and communities. To say we are proud of what these women entrepreneurs created together with our supporters during their time in Leadership Development would be a gross understatement.
They poured hours of work into growing themselves alongside Fortune 500 executives from our biggest sponsors who gave their valuable time to make a difference in our world. They shadowed their American mentors in their homes and businesses learning what it takes to be a fully-functional entrepreneur when the going gets tough. And they took advice from our biggest supporters and donors who give out of their pocket books, their homes, their networks, and their vast knowledge bases. The men and women who donate their time, dollars and gifts to us mean the world to us and to the women.
This year, we received one of the greatest honors we’ve received for a Graduation Gala: a video of congratulations from Her Excellency The First Lady Rula Ghani of Afghanistan. Watch the First Lady’s remarks here. We also received well wishes from the Ambassadors and highest representatives in government from the USA, both Rwanda and Afghanistan, demonstrating once again the deep commitment all three countries’ governments continue to show toward gender equality and sustainable peace through business. Take a look at the other wonderful videos congratulating the impressive graduates of the Class of 2017:
Take a look at how the countries we serve view PEACE THROUGH BUSINESS(r). I bet it gives you pause and makes your eyes water just a touch, as it did for me. Watching the dedication and shared admiration these public servants of America, Rwanda and Afghanistan feel for the women of this program and for our mission makes our humble hearts soar with pride. We are proud to represent even a sliver of the the greater momentum at play in the world toward gender equality.
